Ewa Beach Elementary Celebrates 50 Years

Ewa Beach Elementary on the South-West side of Oahu, like the State of Hawaii celebrated it’s 50th birthday. The faculty and administrators of the Home of the Bee’s and Kiawe Trees have been providing the children of Ewa Beach the life lessons skills set to carry them far in their lives.
The 5-building campus opened their doors in 1959 and grew with their community. Teachers focused primarily on general education, however based on their community’s needs they also taught curriculum for special education and English as a Second Language students. As their enrollment grew, their courses grew adding classes for the hearing impaired and expanded their special education classes to preschool aged children. And, in the 2007, they added a robotics program that the students have taken much interest in.

On September 9, 2009 faculty, staff, and alumni began arriving to the campus and the feeling of reunion and Bee pride was in the air. As an alumni, seeing my kindergarten teacher and the librarian that would watch Sesame Street with us every Wednesday brought back childhood memories. Emceed by local radio personality, Billy V., the celebration included a half-day of school work followed by a mini carnival, music entertainment, a fashion show and in traditional Hawaii style, lots of food! As the day came to an end everyone gathered to sing Happy Birthday to the school with wishes for longevity.
Now, an 8-building campus, Ewa Beach Elementary teaches more than 400 students and has been ranked #4 out of 10 schools in the district Ewa by parents as one of the great schools.
Do you still have Elementary School pride?
