Kauai: More than “The Garden Isle”
The oldest of the major Hawaiian islands, Kauai still possesses much of its original beauty. From Kekaha to Hanapepe to Omao all the way around to the Napali Coast; flourishing majestic mountains, deep blue seas, and the essence of paradise clothe the island. Much of Kauai’s untouched, undeveloped beauty can be attributed to the steadfastness of its residents.

Ancient Hawaiian history proclaims that Kauai is home to the menehune, mythical craftspeople responsible for building the Alekoko fishpond near the Nawiliwili harbor in Lihue, the Polihale Heiau, as well as other roads and structures. Menehune are believed to be resourceful and possess enormous physical strength; again similar characteristic of the island’s residents.

Like the rest of the State of Hawaii, tourism is Kauai’s largest industry; but has become a popular backdrop for several of Hollywood’s movies in the recent decades. On the west side of the island, The West Technology and Visitors Center is the biggest employer as its growth and presence slowly become Kauai’s high tech hub. The Kauai Chamber of Commerce boasts a membership of more than 650 businesses and professional men and women. Compared to other U.S. cities, this membership is low; but Kauai is only a little more than 500 square miles.
